The unnamed woman was seen by a witness sitting on the side wall of the New Holland Pike Bridge over US Rt 30 at 5:30 a.m. on July 2, according to a release by the Manheim Township police.
"By the time police arrived, she had fallen onto US 30," the police said adding,"The female appears to have been struck by multiple vehicles after falling to the roadway below."
The woman was struck on US Rt 30 eastbound near Exit: PA 23 East -New Holland Pike/Route 23 in Manheim Township just after 5:30 a.m. on July 2, according to emergency dispatchers and the police.
The Manheim Township police began diverting traffic just before the exit starting around 6:30 a.m., and said the road should be closed for "several hours."
A coroner was called to the scene around 7:30 a.m., but here time of death was recorded as 6:49 a.m., according to Chief Deputy Coroner Eric Bieber.
"There was significant trauma at the scene," Bieber noted.
The road reopened at 8:47 a.m. according to PennDOT's 511PA.
UPDATE: 7/2/24 3:35 p.m.-
The police identified the woman after receiving numerous tips from the public according to an updated release at 3:35 p.m., but added that "at this time, we are not releasing her name."
The police are still asking the public for help in their investigation of this fatal incident.
